A History of Muslims in Oxford was a collaborative research and heritage project developed between the Community History Hub at the University of Oxford’s History Faculty and the Everyday Muslim Heritage and Archive Initiative. Beginning in 2021, the project set out to document, preserve, and celebrate the rich histories of Muslims who have lived, worked, and studied in Oxford and across Oxfordshire. A digital archive and a walking heritage trail were created through oral history interviews and archival research.
The project revealed the diverse contributions of Muslim communities to the city’s social, cultural, and academic life. Combining scholarly research with community-led consultation and engagement, A History of Muslims in Oxford ensured that local voices were at the heart of how these histories were recorded and shared.
